In preparation for launching our new Managed Security Services Platform OPUSGuard offering, powered by Alienvault, I was doing a little more research in regards to this topic, specifically on Canada.
There is a ton of information out there about threats and Cyber Crime activities, however in general when we are speaking to some Canadian companies about Security Solutions, there appears to be a general and typically Canadian response, that this is more of a US or other country problem and it wont happen to us. Before you all jump on this and yell at me, it is not every company in Canada with this attitude, it is a general statement about attitudes in some businesses in Canada. There are many, many organization we work with and know of, who are very serious about their Security Posture.
In reading the 2016 Internet Crime Report published by the FBI, yes an American organization, in their report I have to admit I was somewhat taken back by the fact that Canada was Number 1 in the Top 20 Foreign Countries by Victim relating to Cyber Crime. Here’s a link to the IC3 Report as published by the FBI Cyber Crimes Division FBI – IC3 Report 2016
We made a decision a couple of years ago to move deeper into Cyber Security, we took our time looking at the state of offerings and platforms on the market and finally made our decision to move forward with Alienvault as our Managed Security Services platform and wrap around this platform and services our team of individuals who will be providing the implementation, management and response activities as required to ensure our clients subscribing to this advanced Cyber Security offering are well protected.
This offering will be in addition to the world class Endpoint and Anti-RansomWare (Intercept-X) solutions we have been representing for many years available from SOPHOS. A self promoting and shameless plug right here for OPUS and these products which we were the Canadian Partner of the Year in 2016.
Our new offering is ramping up and will be officially launched on February 1, 2018, keep an eye out for more information on this and the educational webinars and in person seminars we will be hosting throughout the year.
In closing, to all my Canadian friends and colleagues, the threat of Cyber Crime is very real and we are not immune to it, pay attention and make sure your security posture is appropriate and relevant to your organizations requirements.
